We continued working with number patterns with a geometry twist. Ask your child to tell you about Euler’s Formula and some of the patterns we saw in polygons and 3-D figures. Almost all students completed the practice work on pages 152 – 153 of the MMS 6 workbook.
We had our first novel discussion time. This term this will be in the form
of a whole-class discussion. Students were called on at random to contribute to
the discussion. Instead of a book report, students will make connections
between the book, Bridge to Terabithia,
and our current inquiry unit. Specifically, they will reflect on how characters’
safety was at risk. Students have been forewarned to look out for these
connections as we read. The class was assigned to read Chapter 2 and answer the
questions relating to Chapter 2. This is due on Monday when we will have our next
discussion time.
We continued working on our final inquiry unit for the year. Students
completed work on the think-pair-share activity we began
yesterday. Some students chose to share their story with the class. The class
began work on creating a list of tips or advice that would help keep them safe
in various situations. The list contains the following tips so far:
Don’t go places alone.
Listen to your trusted adult.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Follow safety precautions.
Yell for help.
Students
watched “Amy’s
Choice” – a true story about a 15- year old girl who ran away to meet a man
she met online. They answered questions about how Amy was at risk and how they
can avoid similar situations by communicating with trusted adults.
We had a practice spelling bee in class today. Those participating the
Grade 6 contest should be practicing their spelling. The in-class contest takes
place on Monday, May 14th.
Students had French and gym class today.
Students who are interested in doing the dance for Arts’ Night are asked to
practice the first move in the following link: Swing-Lindy Hop.
Bubble soccer waiver forms are past due. Students who do not submit these
first thing on Monday morning will not be allowed to participate in this
activity.
