We began our day with math. Students learned what is meant by the phrase ‘evaluating
algebraic expressions’. They continued expressing algebraic expressions in
words but also evaluated the expression by substituting a given value for the
variable and then used order of operations to find the solution. They used this
pattern to create Input/Output tables or used Input/Output tables to create an
algebraic expression. Most students completed all practice work on p. 212 -215
of the MMS 7 book in class. Students are asked to complete all corrections on
pages 200 – 215 as all these pages have now been checked for everyone. The unit
test for Patterning and Algebra will be written on Thursday, May 31st.
Next up was novel discussion time where we discussed Chapter 8 of Bridge to Terabithia as a class. Students
shared various aspects of the chapter that they had decided to write about. The
class was assigned to read Chapter 9 and answer the questions relating to
Chapter 9. This is due tomorrow when we will have our next discussion time.
We continued work on our Digital Footprint inquiry unit. Today students
reflected on yesterday’s ‘Post-to-be-Private’ lesson and what they have learned
so far in this unit. They applied their learning by writing a persuasive letter
to a fictional friend offering advice relating to social networking. Students
are also being asked to demonstrate their knowledge, communication, and
thinking skills in this writing form. Most students did not complete this task
as there was insufficient class time. They will have more time to get done
tomorrow. Students who were away Tuesday and yesterday received class time to
get caught up on the UOI activities that took place while they were away. Students
will need devices tomorrow as they will begin work on their summative task for
this unit.
We had another a quick Arts’ Night performance practice in the auditorium
today. Students are asked to bring in their costumes and props by tomorrow.
Students will come to school dressed in their Arts’ Night costumes on Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Our performance will take place on
Wednesday, May 30th at 1:30 pm and 7 pm at the City Church. Busing
permission forms for this event are past due.
