My Digital Footprint

We continued working with number patterns. Today we related graphs and Input/Output machines. Students used an Input/Output machine to produce a graph, or used a graph to create an Input/Output machine. We discussed some strategies to help use to this successfully, such as recording input and output values in a table and looking for the patterns in output numbers. Almost all students completed the practice work on pages 150 – 151 of the MMS 6 workbook.

Students received their novel study package for this term. This comprised a book, Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, and Duo-tang with prompts and questions. They were assigned to read Chapter 1 and answer the questions relating to Chapter 1. This is due tomorrow when we will have our first discussion time.

We also began our final inquiry unit for the year. This unit that falls under the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves

Central Idea:

Being knowledgeable and engaging in safe practices will enable you to deal with challenging social situations

Key Concepts: Perspective, Reflection

Lines of Inquiry

Digital literacy and ethics, Personal and inter-personal skills that promote positive interaction, Personal safety

Summative Task

For the summative task, students will teach a lesson to a JK – Grade 5 class about one of our lines of inquiry. They will need to arrange this with a teacher. More information will follow about this later.

Today students began working on a think-pair-share activity by sharing about a risky situation that they have experienced. They considered the risks, and the factors that placed them in this situation. They also reflected on what they could have done to reduce the risks.

We had a practice spelling bee in class today. Those participating the Grade 6 contest should be practicing their spelling. The in-class contest takes place on Monday, May 14th.

Students had French, music, and gym class today. During music class we began discussing our Arts’ Night presentation. Students who are interested in doing the dance are asked to practice the first move in the following link: Swing-Lindy Hop. Those who are interested in a vocal part are asked to practice the song 100 Years.

Students are reminded to hand in their bubble soccer waiver forms if they haven’t already done this. These are due tomorrow.

Students going on tomorrow’s track meet should be at school at 7:20 a.m. as the bus leaves at 7:30 a.m.
