Day 5 – Congruent & Similar Figures and Electrical Safety

In today’s math class, the Grade 6s learned how to tell if two or more figures are congruent or similar. They used rulers, protractors, and tracing paper to compare figures. They know how to explain their thinking using geometric vocabulary. Students are asked to complete the practice work on p. 100 – 102 of their MMS 6 Practice Books. They should also correct yesterday’s homework. Please remember to review the whole numbers unit test that went home with your child, sign it, and return it to school.

During our inquiry time, students worked on their electrical safety posters. They used their notes from yesterday and the criteria that they decided would make an effective poster. They first created a rough draft that they submitted for revision and editing suggestions. They were challenged to complete this before first recess. Later they used their draft to create their good copy while working together. This draft needed to be completed before second recess. Having deadlines helped everyone make good use of their class time. Some students used their recess time to complete their work.

Grade 6s are bringing their electricity tests home today. Please take time to review, sign, and return these tests.

Grade 6s attended gym class today.

We continued working on our Djibouti International Day project. Today we took a look at all the information we have collected so far. We have decided that we need more colour pictures. Some students have volunteered to bring in more pictures. Please check with your child to see if they have committed to bringing in a colour printout. We also made decisions about the title for our display and our display table. The class has decided to serve a Djibouti treat at International Day – banana fritters. Students have committed to finding authentic recipes, purchasing the ingredients, and preparing the food. International Day is one week away.

Students should be working on their IB Learner Profile poster and be ready to present these on their scheduled date. Emilia will be presenting tomorrow.

Soccer tryouts begin next, from 4 – 5 pm, week as follows:

Girls Soccer Tryouts – Tuesday, October 3rd & Wednesday, October 4th
