In today’s
math class, the Grade 6s reviewed transformations, i.e. translations,
reflections, and rotations. Students practiced writing the coordinates for the
vertices of a figure and its image/s. We discussed the amount of detail that
needs to be recorded when recording transformations. It is not enough to just
say, it’s a rotation, for example. The description of a rotation should include
the coordinates of the turning point, the direction of the turn, and size of
the turn. Students are encouraged to use tracings to correctly perform and
label the vertices of the images following a transformation. Students are asked
to complete the practice work on p. 96 – 99 of their MMS 6 Practice Books. They
should also correct yesterday’s homework. Please remember to review the whole
numbers unit test that went home with your child yesterday, sign it, and return
it to school tomorrow.
We continued
working on our Djibouti International Day project. Today we took time to ensure
that everyone has emailed me their information and printed their pictures. Students
who have not yet submitted their information to me via email need to do this
tonight.
During our
inquiry time, students learned about electrical safety. We watched various
videos and students took notes about what they learned. We had a discussion
after each video clip to discuss electrical safety. Students are going to
create electrical safety posters using what they have learned. They were asked
to team up with someone they have never worked with before. As a class we
generated a checklist of criteria that make an effective poster. Students then
got into groups to begin planning their posters.
