Day 1 –Long Division & Energy Transformations

In math time, we took up some of the harder problems from yesterday’s homework as a class. There were no new concepts in today’s math lesson. Students used lesson time to consolidate their understanding of long division. It also gave me an opportunity to give extra support to students who needed the help. Students are asked to show all their steps when solving multiplication and division problems. We began some review work on rounding, multiplying by 10, 100, 1000, and mental math which we have already covered in the past week. Some students may still need some support with their long division work. Grade 6s are asked to complete p. 32 - 33 of their MMS 6 Practice and Homework and p. 2 – 4 of the MMS 7 Practice and Homework Book.

A couple of students in our class got house points for naming the number of electrons passing through a circuit in 1s at a current of 1 Amp. The number was 6 quintillion 240 quadrillion.

During our inquiry time, students shared what they had learned about electricity in yesterday’s video. They recorded some of their learning in their KWL chart. We then began our next investigation into the energy transformations in appliances. We did not get to discuss our observations today.

Grade 6s attended French, gym, and music class today.

Students should be working on their IB Learner Profile poster and be ready to present these on their scheduled date. Lucas will be presenting tomorrow.
