Rotations

We began our day with a  math lesson on rotations. Students leaned that figures can be rotated at the turn centre in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. They also learned to describe the size of the turn as a 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 turn. They noted that the image is always congruent to the figure and may or may not face the same direction as the figure. Students used tracing paper and Pattern Blocks to show rotations of a figure.

We are nearing the end of our forces unit. Students were introduced to 6 possible projects that they could do for their summative task for this unit on forces. The project options were presented to students today. They had the opportunity to ask questions about the projects before making their decisions.

Students had time in class to research the internet for information relating to their topic. There are limited supplies in the classroom for students who have chosen a building project. They may need to bring in additional supplies from home. Students may not use materials like Lego or K'Nex for their building.

In language, students worked on list 21 spelling words - Spell words in which au and aw spell the /ô/ sound: claws, fault, causing, dawn, straw, drawings, launch, sauce, jaw, haunt, yawn, fawns, awkward, gnaw, audience, scrawl, fraud, gaunt, restaurant, shawl.

We continued learning about verbs. Today we learned that some verbs to not show action (am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been). Ask your child to recite the 8 state of being verbs we learned about.

We ended the day discussing what we read in the first chapter of Little House in the Big Woods. Students shared the pictures they drew and explained why they drew the way they did. Students were given time in class to begin reading chapter 2. The reading response page that relates to chapter 2 needs to be completed for Thursday.

Students attended French, art, and gym class today.
