Our
remaining class time this week will focus on math. This is how we started our
day. We began by taking up yesterday’s homework before working on today’s theoretical
probability lesson. In today’s class students conducted an experiment involving
coloured cubes. Before the experiment began they recorded the theoretical
probability by dividing the number of favourable results by the total number of
possible outcomes. They recorded this as a fraction and a decimal. They did
this for each coloured object. They then conducted the experiment and recorded
their results. Once this was done the compared experimental probability to the
theoretical probability. They pooled results with classmates and found that the
more times an experiment was conducted the closer the experimental probability
was to the theoretical probability.
We also learned how to find how many times we can expect to see an outcome by multiplying the theoretical probability by the number of times the experiment was conducted. Some students had trouble using long division to convert probabilities recorded as fractions to decimals. Below is a video for those who need to review this. Don’t do it the easy way!

For
homework, students are to complete practice questions 1- 6 on p. 418 – 419 of
the MMS 7 textbook.

Please
return all portfolios as we will be working on these later this week.
