We started
our day with math. First we took up yesterday’s practice work on theoretical
probability. We then began today’s lesson on applications of probability.
Students heard the rules for playing the Sums
and Products game. Using their knowledge of probability, they chose to be
Player A or B. Before beginning the game, students used a tree diagram to find
all possible outcomes of the game, and the theoretical probability of Player A
winning and Player B winning. They considered how this was different to their
initial assumptions on who might win. Finally they got to play the game and
compare the experimental probability to the theoretical probability.
In today’s
practice work, students are required to keep showing theoretical probabilities
as fractions and decimals. In addition, they should represent probabilities using
percents and a sentence including the word ‘chance’. For homework, students are
to complete practice questions 1- 7 on p. 422 – 423 of the MMS 7 textbook. The
unit test will take place this Friday, June 7th or Monday, June 10th.
We will know which day by the end of day tomorrow.
Grade 6s
have begun collaboratively writing the class graduation speech. This task prompted
much reminiscing about the Grade 6 school year. Students will be nominating and
voting for representatives from our class to say the speech at our graduation
event next Friday, June 14th. Nominations of students will be based
on criteria that will be co-constructed with students this week.
Students
attended French and gym class.
Please
return all portfolios as we will be working on these later this week.
