Today was
another busy day in Grade 6. We focused on learning the risks with online
friending and the guidelines that should be followed when making friends
online. Students participated in an activity where they chose to accept/not
accept people based on a shared profile. Later the true profile was revealed. I
am happy that many students in our class chose to not accept any of the shared
profiles based on the fact that they do not know them personally. This was the
main message of today’s learning. For example, students watched a video titled
Post-to-be-Private, where they learned that peopled on your friends list can
see everything you post.
Students learned that they should be mindful of what
they post and that they should be careful what they reveal about themselves.
Personal information should never be shared. Students are demonstrating their
learning by writing a letter of advice in response to three possible scenarios.
This was completed in class today.
We had novel
study time next. Students have been assigned to read Chapter 10 of Bridge to Terabithia and the responses
for Chapter 10 (incorrectly labeled “Chapter 9” in the duo-tang). This work is
due on Friday.
After recess
we had language time. We continued learning about the criteria for report
writing in the format of an interview. Students read a sample of good report
writing. They generated and discussed a list of strengths the writer had.
In math, students
reviewed the homework on evaluating algebraic expressions. They then practiced
word problems on writing expressions and finding the term number. For homework they are to complete worksheet pages
212 to 215. The tentative date for the unit test is Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
Grade 6s had
French class with Mme. Stella today as well as gym class at the end of the day.
Track &
Field day is set to take place tomorrow. Please bring backpacks in case of rain
– we will have a regular school day if this is the case. Students should come
to school in their gym uniforms. Dress for the weather tomorrow. Hats and sunblock
might be needed. Extra water is a must. Students are asked to bring in $1 to
purchase a freezie.
Remember to
return permission/trip forms/payment as applicable for Cedar Glen, graduation,
and spring fundraiser activity.
Cedar Glen
trip permissions are due this Friday.
