Re-registration
deadline- Monday February 12, 2008 at 4:00pm
A message from the Admissions Coordinator…
Hello SJA Parents and Guardians,
This is just a friendly reminder that our deadline for
re-registration is just days away! Currently, we have a number of families on
waitlists wanting to secure any vacancies that may be available to them once
this deadline has passed. Therefore, in
order to ensure that your child has a secured placement for the upcoming
academic year (2018-2019), we kindly ask that if you have not already done so,
to please complete and return your child’s registration package to their homeroom
teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support with St. Jude’s Academy.
Best regards,
Helen Markovic
Students
wrote a test during today’s math time. As a result there is no math homework
assigned for today.
After the
test, students worked on their Viking art project. Today’s messy task was
adding a layer of splatter paint to the sea to represent foam and white tipped
waves.
Speech
finalists were announced today. Well done to all Grade 6s for their hard work
in writing their speech, and their confidence in reciting the speech. Everyone
has come a long way and should be proud of themselves. Congratulations to
Rishaan, Jarniko, and Lucas for being selected to go the finals on Friday. The
Grade 4 – 8 competition begins at noon. All are welcome.
How the world works
An inquiry
into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world
(physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific
principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on
society and on the environment.
Title: Flight
Central Idea: Air has many properties that can be
used for flight and for other purposes.
Concepts: Function, Responsibility
Lines of Inquiry:
·
The
properties of air
·
Flying
devices that use the properties of air
·
Societal
and environmental impacts of flying devices that make use of the properties of
air
Students
used an organiser to define air and flight and to brainstorm all they know
about these two concepts. Students shared their ideas with the class. Students
then began investigating the properties of air using hands-on experiments.
These experiments will help students know if their brainstorms are correct.
Before we
began the investigations, we reviewed the scientific method using the mnemonic
PHEOCA to help us. Ask your child to explain PHEOCA, a fair test, and variables
(control, independent, and dependent) to you. For each investigation, students
had to first formulate a hypothesis that predicted what would happen. Students
then recorded their observations. We will discuss observations in class
tomorrow.
Students attended
French and gym class today.
Keep
collecting pledges and donations for the Jump Rope for Heart Event.
Remember to
return your reregistration packages to secure your spot for the 2018/2019
school year.
