We began the
day celebrating Pancake Tuesday with our Pancake Eating Contest. Well done to
Zeta who game in first place for both the games and the eating contest.
In today’s
math lesson we reviewed rates. Students learned about average and unit rates.
We also practiced using drawings, tables, and graphs when solving problems
related to rate. Students are asked to complete p. 37 – 39 of the MMS 7 book
for homework if they did not get done in class. Students will be writing a test
this Thursday. Students are bringing their Fractions, Percents, Ratios, and
Rates test home today. Please take time to review this test with your child,
sign the test, and return the test to school tomorrow.
In our
inquiry unit we conducted more experiments that helped us to understand the
properties of air. Ask your child to tell you about today’s investigations and
what they learned. Students worked together to create a checklist for their
first project in this unit. They will be making a mind map that shows all the
properties of air we have learned about. They will then use the mind map as a
study tool to prepare for ‘The Properties of Air’ test which will take place on
Wednesday, February 21st.
The St. Jude’s
Speech competition took place last Friday. Congratulations to Rishaan for
placing first, Jarniko for placing second, and Lucas for placing third in the
Grade 6 section of the event. Rishaan has been selected to represent our class
and compete against our sister school, The Maples Academy. This inter-school
contest will take place this Thursday, February 15th starting at
10:30 am. All are welcome to attend.
Tomorrow is
Valentine’s Spirit Day. Students are invited to come to school dressed in red,
white, and pink.
Please note
that there is no school for students this Friday as it is a Professional
Development Day for teachers. There is no school on Monday, as it is Family
Day.
On Tuesday
after the long weekend, we will begin working on our art project for our flight
unit. Students will need to bring in a t-shirt that they don’t mind getting
very messy with paper mache. Students are also asked to bring in newspapers.
Keep
collecting pledges and donations for the Jump Rope for Heart Event.
