I was away
at an IB meeting today. Ms. Hamdic taught the Grade 6 class in my place.
First up was
math. Students reviewed nets and learned that 1. a net is a pattern that you
can cut out, fold, and tape to make a polyhedron, 2. a regular polyhedron has
regular faces. A regular octahedron has 8 congruent faces. Each face is an
equilateral triangle, 3. when you have made a polyhedron, you can look at it to
find out more about its properties. Students who did not complete the practice
work in class need to complete pages 52 - 54 of the MMS 7 workbooks for
tomorrow. The unit test will be written on Thursday, January 18th.
Students have
been working on persuasive writing as part of this term’s OWA. Today they wrote
the post assessment with a goal of improving their writing skills by
implementing all they learned.
Grade 6s continued
working on persuasive speeches by researching their topics and recording their
notes in their organiser. The deadline for the research to be completed is
January 16th.
At the end of
the day the class worked on their explorers unit. This time they heard about
the contributions that the Portuguese made to navigation and sailing. Students
will be writing a unit test on Monday, January 22nd.
Permission forms
for our winter skiing/snowboarding trips are now past due. Please return these
as soon as possible if you haven’t already done this.
Students attended
French class and the Jump Rope for Heart assembly today.
Today, our
school experienced an unexpected fire alarm. SJA staff did an amazing job
evacuating the students safely and in a timely fashion from the building.
Students were outside for ten minutes waiting in line while they followed
proper protocol to ensure every child was accounted for. They made our way over
to Meadowvale rinks to have shelter from the cold. Once the fire
department gave the go ahead they returned back to the building.
After care
invoices have all been sent out via freshbooks. Payments can be made online
and are due January 29th.

with your child(ren). We value your loyalty and commitment to our school community
and would love to continue our partnership by offering priority enrollment for
our current SJA families.
We kindly
ask that you take a moment to review your financial statement and complete the information
in the package and make any necessary changes to your place of residence, employment,
email changes or any medical information that the administration should be aware
of.
Please be
aware that in order to secure your child’s enrolment, it is imperative that you
submit your re-enrollment package and fees no later than February 12, 2018 at

Dear
Parent/Guardian:
St. Jude’s
Academy is pleased to be holding a Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope for
Heart event on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018. All money raised will support the
Heart and Stroke Foundation in their mission to promote children’s health and
fund vital heart and stroke research.
Jump Rope
for Heart encourages kids to get active by skipping rope while they collect
pledges for heart disease and stroke research. They also learn the importance
of living a healthy lifestyle and giving back to their community. This year
marks Jump Rope for Heart’s 36th Anniversary and the Heart and Stroke
Foundation is striving to get 1 million kids jumping in close to 4,000 schools
across Canada. Let’s be part of it!
We need your
help to reach our School fundraising goal of $1000.00.
Please help
support your child’s fundraising efforts by registering them online at
JumpRopeForHeart.ca and send out donations request emails to friends, family,
and colleagues. Online fundraising is the quickest way to reach all of your
contacts and online donors receive an automatic tax receipt.
Please visit
JumpRopeForHeart.ca and start fundraising today!
Each student
will be bringing home pledge envelopes if you prefer to collect donations
in-person. Please ensure that their pledge envelope is returned on the day of
their school’s Jump Event Day.
Thank you in
advance for your support,
St. Jude’s
Academy Staff
