We began our
day with our fractions unit. Today we learned how to estimate and find percents.
We worked through word problems and discussed strategies for solving them by
first reading the problem carefully, recording what we KNOW, and recording what
we need to FIND. We practiced the steps to estimating and finding percents as a
class until everyone was confident that they could do this independently. Students
who did not complete the practice work in class are asked to complete p. 124 –
125 of the MMS 6 practice book for homework. I have now checked pages 110 – 117
of the practice book. Students are asked to correct and/or correct these pages
too. Remember to return math unit tests if you haven’t already done so.
Next we worked
on speeches. Today’s goal was to have all paragraphs peer- and parent-edited
for spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, and grammar. Speeches now need to be
rewritten as a good copy for Monday, January 29th. Students are also
to record their speech on cue cards for memorisation purposes. Both the cue
cards and good copies are due on Monday. Students who are behind on their
speech work did not go to gym today.
During
today’s inquiry time, students worked their final project for this unit. Today’s
goal was to plan their RSA Animate. They did this by drawing 10 facts they
would like to teach the class on 10 steps. They then drew a doodle for each
fact. Cameras, preferably on iPads, iPods, or iPhones will be needed next week
Tuesday onwards for this project.
Students attended
French, music, and gym class today.
Our class is

this event by sending in items to sell at the bake sale. All items must be peanut and nut free.
Remember to return your
reregistration packages to secure your spot for the 2018/2019 school year.
