Yesterday we
had a guest teacher in our class. Ms. Walls worked with the Grade 6s in all
subject areas. The first area was math where students wrote their Data
Management Unit test. They also completed their preassessment for our new
measurement unit. Today we began the measurement unit. This unit involves 3-D
geometric shapes. To start the unit we learned about nets and isometric
diagrams. Students who did not complete the practice work in class are to
complete p. 40 – 43 of the MMS 6 practice book for homework.
Students had
a whole class discussion on the Prologue to Chapter 4 of Tuck Everlasting yesterday. Today we discussed Chapters 5 & 6
as a class. Students have been assigned to complete Chapters 7 & 8 and the
responses for homework. This work is due on Monday.
Yesterday
students learned how the natural resources in British Columbia impacted the way
of life for one of Canada’s first peoples – the Haida. Today, students learned
that they will be creating an art piece in the style of the Haida. They will
research a local Haida artist and their work to discover the meaning of the
symbols, animals, and colours. Students will need their devices on Monday.
Finally, at
the end of the day we had our Grand Prix. Well done to Wael for winning the
Speedy Award, Jarniko the Arrow Award, and Lucas the Good Looker Award.
Look out for
a trip form coming home today.
We spent
some time preparing for our Christmas concert performance.
