We began our
week with math. Today’s goal was to complete and correct all math work for the
Data Management Unit. I met with students to check their work and give feedback
on ways to improve their responses. Students who did not get done in class need
to finish up to page 120 of the MMS 7 workbook for homework. The unit test will
be written on Thursday, December 7th.
Grade 6s
then worked on their preassessment writing piece for Term 2’s OWA. This term
they will learn about persuasive writing. This will prepare them for the persuasive
speech competition in early February.
We ended the
day by beginning work on our new inquiry unit Where we are in place and time.

Students
wrote a quiz to determine what they already know and understand about the
concepts we will cover in this unit. Students shared their responses with the
class. One of the big questions we asked was “Who was first to discover North
America?” Students will be learning more about the different perspectives on
this question. The class then enacted tableau’s to a few aboriginal creation
stories. We discussed what this stories tell us and what aboriginal groups
believe about who was first to discover America.
Grade 6s
attended French and gym class today.
