Hot Air Balloons

Day 6

Students began their day with math. We first took up yesterday’s practice work on coordinates. We then did a new lesson on scatter plots. Each student in the class measured their arm span and foot length and added their data to a class chart. We plotted the data on a scatter plot and noticed that there is an upward trend. As arm span increases so does shoe length. Students learned that data could have not have a trend or have a downward trend. Students are asked to complete the practice work on page 192 & 193 of the MMS textbook. The Data Measurement test will be written on Tuesday, December 20.

In today’s UOI time, we explored how hot air balloons work. We watched a couple of YouTube clips of hot air balloons. Students took notes as they watched. Ask your child to name the 3 parts of a hot air balloon and to describe how a hot air balloon flies. In particular ask them to explain buoyancy. We got a bit off-topic during our discussion today. We started with describing gravity and ended up on black holes. Everyone should be studying for their UOI test on the properties of air. The test will be written this Thursday.

Look out for Candygram letters coming home today. Funds raised will be used to pay for Brian, a boy who lives in Africa, to go to school. Orders must be placed by Friday.

Students attended French, gym, and music class today.

We had a short Christmas concert rehearsal time at the end of the day. We are thinking of dressing as carolers for the concert.

Remember to return reregistration packages.
