Day 7
Students
began their day with math. We first took up yesterday’s practice work on scatter
plots. We then did a new lesson on conducting surveys with particular attention
to phrasing the survey question to be clearly understood, including all
possible answers to the survey question, and phrasing the question in a neutral
manner. Students then generated a survey question, a tally chart, and a class
list to ensure they didn’t skip anyone. They conducted their survey and graphed
their results. Students are asked to complete the practice work on page 199 of
the MMS textbook. The Data Measurement test will be written on Tuesday,
December 20.
In today’s
UOI time, reviewed what we learned yesterday about how hot air balloons work.
We also reviewed the experiments we conducted on Monday with blowing air. We
discussed how these experiments generated results we did not expect. Students
generated questions that these experiments provoked. We then began to build an understanding of why
these experiments produced these results by discussing air pressure around the
Earth. This has already answered some of our questions: Why does air flow? Why
does air have mass? Ask your child to explain what they learned today.
