Today was Track & Field Day! Grade 6s were active at the
park participating in shot put, triple jump, and the 100 m dash. We then headed
back to school for lunch.
We were very productive and used the time after lunch to
have a discussion about chapter 5 of Number
the Stars, read chapter 6, and then have a discussion about chapter 6.
We even got started on our next and final math unit –
Probability. Students used words such as certain, likely, impossible, unlikely,
possible, etc. to describe events. We discussed experimental and theoretical
probabilities. We conducted an experiment using 3 paper bags with different,
unknown proportions of blue and yellow counters. We repeated the experiment 10
times for each bag, recorded the results, and wrote experimental probabilities
for the outcomes. We used a graph to do the same with theoretical
probabilities. We did not do the practice questions today – we will use class
time to do this tomorrow.
We then headed back to the park where Grade 6s completed the
running long jump, 400 m, 800 m, and 200 m events.
Back at school, we heard that Jasleen, Temi, and Zachary
have been selected to participate in a Track & Field Day at The Maples
Academy tomorrow. Well done to all Grade 6s for their participation and for a
productive day!
