Today we got back to more of our regular daily routine. We
started a new math unit called Patterns in Number and Geometry. We focused on
representing patterns in today's lesson. Students represented patterns by
modelling them on grid paper, recording them in tables, writing a pattern rule
(Start at ______. Add _______ each time.), graphing coordinates on grid paper,
and writing input/output rules. Students are asked to complete the questions on
p. 382 & 383 of the MMS textbook. Students are bring grid paper home with
them.
Students then worked on their term 3 writing assessment
piece. Students wrote a tale or a fable. Before they began writing, we examined
the rubric to ensure students understood how their writing will be graded and
what has to be included in their writing.
Once the writing assessment was completed, the class was
challenged to complete the first draft of their exhibition letter that they
began yesterday. Students that completed their draft met with me to discuss
revisions that need to be made. They made changes that were suggested. Good,
typed copies of letters need to be emailed to me by Thursday or printed out and
handed in to me by Thursday.
After recess and lunch, students headed out on their golfing
trip with Ms. Lovan.
We ended the day by beginning work on our last inquiry unit
- Religion Rules. Students were introduced to the transdisciplinary theme,
central idea, and lines of inquiry for this unit.
Transdisciplinary
Theme: How We Express Ourselves
An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and
express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways
in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of
the aesthetic.
|
Central Idea: Beliefs and values guide human expressions.
Lines of Inquiry:
·
Beliefs
and values practiced globally
·
Expressions
of a belief system
·
How
knowledge of belief systems lead to a better understanding of people
We will explore 5 religions as a class: Christianity,
Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. Students were also introduced to the
final UOI project - creating an RSA Animate of a religion or religions of their
choosing.
Today students participated in a place mat activity where
they worked with a group to brainstorm all the know about these 5 religions.
They shared their knowledge with the class. The class then recorded their
wonderings about these religions. We hope to find answers to their questions as
we progress through this unit.
The Grade 6 class has been asking for an end of year fun
trip to celebrate the year. They came up with their own (very expensive) list
of ideas and had a very excited voting session on the options they generated. I
will keep you posted on the progress of their ideas and planning.
It is a great time to begin purchasing uniforms for next year,
as Multiform Canada will be donating 25% of purchases to the Nepal Earthquake
Fund. Students are asked to come to school in their gym clothes on Monday's and
Wednesday's from now until the end of the year.
Look out for June lunch forms and Ice Cream Sundae order
forms coming home today.
Please let me know if you have a video copy of the
exhibition that you are willing to share with other parents in the Grade 6
class.
