In today's math lesson we watched a great YouTube clip about
angles and polygons by Math Antics. The clip reminded us that polygons
-are 2-D figures
-have only straight sides
-are closed figures
-are named for the number of sides/angles
-may be regular (all sides/angles equal) or irregular
We picked up from the clip to discuss polygons further.
Students learned that convex polygons have all angles less than 180⁰ while concave polygons have one or more
reflex angles (>180⁰). Students used a Venn diagram to classify polygons
according to attributes they chose. They also named figures and listed their
attributes in detail. Students are asked to complete questions 2 & 3 on p.
88 & 89 of the MMS textbook for homework. All students have been given a
copy of the polygons in question 3.
In our inquiry time, we began
learning about provincial government and continued learning about municipal
government. Students read an information sheet, watched a video titled Lets Learn About Local and
Provincial/Territorial Governments, and used internet sources to learn
about government. Students are asked to complete the quiz on provincial
government for homework.
We did not have time to meet to
discuss our novel today.
Grade 6s attended Drama, French & Gym class today.
