In math, we considered mental math strategies, specifically
how to explain mental math strategies that we use. We focused on using
"friendly numbers" and "adding on". These strategies made
sense to students, but they found it tricky explaining their thinking.
In our communities unit, students watched a DVD titled How Communities Grow and Change. We then
had a discussion about the changes that happen when a community grows and some
of the pros and cons associated with these changes. Students then presented
their community research to the class. This time was enjoyed by all.
In arithmetic, we learned that we can check our
multiplication by changing the order of the factors.
We ended the day with Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory. Everyone showed their thoughts about today's
chapters by being illustrators.
