Remembrance Day

Our schedule today was very different from the norm. We began the day with novel study discussions and then took time to read the next chapter of Shannen and the Dream for a School and begin working on the next discussions questions.

Ms. Eisele's class joined us for inquiry time. Students watched a DVD that explained how the federal government works. This video was perfectly timed, as students had been having a hard time explaining this topic in their project.

We then headed down to the gym for our Remembrance Day Assembly. We watched video clips that explained the significance of observing Remembrance Day and wearing poppies. We also observed a moment's silence.

Students have been working on their entries for the Polar Expressions poetry competition. We have been learning about Haiku and Action Word poems. Students have written two samples of each kind of poem. They have been editing each other's work. Once done, they will be selecting one poem to enter into the competition.

Grade 6s attended French class today.

We had a special guest visit our class today. Ms. Kiru Kulendiren ran as Ward 10 councillor in Mississauga's October 27 municipal elections. She spoke to the class about how local and federal government works. She shared with the class why she ran in the elections and the changes she hoped to bring to the residents of ward 10. Grade 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to ask questions. This visit was enjoyed by all students.

We did not have class time to allocate to science fair today. Students are encouraged to come to school early each day to work on their projects from 8 am to 8:45 am daily.
