Drawing Diagrams to Solve Problems

We then began our day by working on math. We spent a big chunk of time taking up yesterday’s homework on perimeter and area of rectangles. We then did a strategy lesson on using diagrams to solve problems relating to perimeter and area.  We did a problem together as a class before students practiced this skill independently.

Students then worked on completing their term 3 reading assessments. We set the goal yesterday, to have all reading assessments administered before the end of day today. I am happy to report, that with the help of my hard working Grade 6s, we have accomplished that goal. Well done, Grade 6s!

Once students completed their reading assessment, they moved on to their Exhibition reflection. They made a journal entry about their successes and challenges through the process of Exhibition.

Students who completed their journal entry then worked on today’s math problems on p. 351 of the MMS textbook. If students completed this work too, they were invited to practice their spelling words for tomorrow’s in-class spelling bee.

We took up today’s math strategy problems after second recess. We had a practice spelling bee at the end of the day.

Students attended Music and Gym class. We even had a fire drill.

What a productive day!

Students who made a PowerPoint presentation for Exhibition are asked to give me a copy of their Power Point by tomorrow. Email or USB is fine.

Look out for Summer Fiesta letters coming home today. Some students are bringing home After-Care and uniform violation letters home today.

We are playing squash tomorrow. Be sure to have your gym uniform and shoes at school tomorrow.

In memory of his brother who passed away, Wade Kosowan, a parent at The Maples Academy, will be bringing an ice cream truck to SJA on Wednesday, May 11th.  his truck will distribute free ice cream cones to the PYP students at SJA.  The truck will arrive at 11:30am and will stay until approximately 2pm.  Classes will be called out to the truck one by one to receive their treat.  The ice cream is free, but we are encouraging students to bring a $2 donation that will be collected and donated to the Eden Food Bank.

Please practice your spelling bee words for this week’s in-class spelling bee tomorrow.

We have begun uniform checks again! These will happen every now and again to ensure that all SJA students are wearing proper uniform. Uniform pieces must be bought through Alpa and Multiform Canada. Uniform violations will be sent home if a student is not wearing the proper piece of clothing! First violation: a warning to parents. Second violation: the office will notify a parent and the correct uniform piece must be brought to the school the same day.  Third violation: uniform piece will be sent home at parent’s expense. Fourth violation: community service hours will be assigned. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
