Graduation Day

Today we met in our novel study groups for our final discussions of The Bridge to Terabithia. Students completed a connections activity where they made connections between the book and our personal health UOI. They identified characters whose mental, physical, social, etc. health was at risk, they linked the risk to the Real World Safety Pledge and suggested ways that the characters could reduce the risk.
Students used their learning to create a Summer Safety Slogan poster.
Their final task was to choose items to add to their digital portfolio.
All materials, including PYP portfolios have been taken home.
At the end of the day, we watched Bridge to Terabithia.
Grade 6s attended gym class with Mr. Slyk and Music class with Mr. Andrei.
Graduation is tonight at 5 pm. Dress smart casual.
Bring a water bottle for tomorrow`s trip to Aerosports. Wear something that is comfortable to jump in and nice enough to wear to Mandarin.
Please remember to pay after-care fees.
Complete your digital portfolio at home if you did not get done in class.

The class then wrote the final math test for the year on probability. Well done everyone on completing the entire math curriculum! Probability tests are coming home today. Please take time to review the test with your child, sign the test, and return the test tomorrow.

Aerosports Waiver

**IMPORTANT - Waiver Details**

**NOTE: All jumpers must have a completed liability waiver on file in order to jump. Anyone under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Anyone 18 or older can sign for themselves with a valid photo ID (must have picture and date of birth). Please ensure that all your party guests that will be jumping have their waiver signed prior to arriving. This is very important because if they are under 18 and come without it completed and their parent is not present they won't be able to jump. By having all waivers completed before will also ensure a smooth check-in process. Here is a link to our website where the waivers can be signed.
http://aerosportsparks.ca/oakville/

Simply click the "Sign Waiver" button located on the right hand side of the page. It will bring you to a new page where it will ask "Who are you signing a waiver for?" Choose "Myself & Children". Then you can follow the prompts from there, accepting the boxes as you read through. Once this is correctly completed the waiver will automatically appear in our system for a staff member to verify.

Arts NIght & More

Yesterday at school, we began working on math review for next week’s probability unit test. We continued with this work today. The unit test will now be written on Tuesday, June 7. Sorry for moving things backwards and forwards. Students that needed to wrote their measurement retest yesterday.

Yesterday we met in our novel study groups to discuss chapter 10 of The Bridge to Terabithia. Students were assigned to read and respond to chapter 11 for homework. Due to the Arts’ Night performance last night, many in the class did not do the reading. As a result we did not have novel study discussion groups today, in order to allow everyone to get caught up with their reading.

Both Arts’ Night performances took place yesterday. If you attended, you will have noticed how smoothly the show ran with many thanks to the audiovisual team (Rachel and Rohan), the runners (Audrey, Titus, and Justin), the presenters (Siheon, Aly, Gurjas, Calvin, Bhavya, Dev, Adam, and Alika), and the performers (Bhoovi, Cayden, Zain, Abel, and Carter). Well done everyone, you made me proud!

Grade 6s attended French with Mme. Stella yesterday. Today, they had a double music lesson with Mr. Andrei, who let them try out all the band instruments. The class had a blast, literally!

We had four groups presenting their UOI projects today. Well done, groups! The presentations have been very informative. Tuesday is the last day for groups to make their presentations.

Spelling bee finalists, please keep practicing your spelling bee words and more for the contest against The Maples Academy.

Look out for after-care letters coming home today.

A Treat You Can't Eat

Probability Experiments, Dress Rehearsal, & a Kangaroo!

We started our day with math. Today’s lesson was about conducting experiments. Students found theoretical probabilities and predicted how many times an outcome would occur before conducting experiments that were repeated 100 times. It was a noisy, hands-on math lesson.  Students are asked to complete the practice problems on p. 424 & 425 of the MMS textbook. The unit test for the Probability unit will likely take place on Monday, June 6.  We ran out of time for the measurement retest today. We plan to do it tomorrow.

We met in our novel study groups to discuss chapter 9 of The Bridge to Terabithia. Students were assigned to read and respond to chapter 10 for homework.

We had an Arts’ Night Rehearsal after first lunch. Grade 6s used time between their tasks to work on their UOI project or novel study work or math. Arts’ Night presenters please practice your lines further.

We had a special treat today. We were invited by Ms. Ella from Oakwood to join them in an animal visit from Hands on Exotics. We saw and petted many including a lemur, a bunny, an opossum, a chinchilla, a ball python, and a kangaroo. We had no idea that this would be happening today. Funny story: When I got home this evening my daughter asked, “What did you do today?” I replied, “You would never guess.” She thought of the most outrageous thing she could and said, “You petted a kangaroo.” “Why, actually, yes, I did,” I replied. J  She was very jealous, but now she also thinks she’s a genius.

Remember to come to school in costume OR bring your costume with to change into. The first performance is at 1 pm. The second performance is at 7 pm. Please arrive at 6:30 for the evening performance.

Spelling bee finalists, please keep practicing your spelling bee words and more for the contest against The Maples Academy.
