Last Day of School

 

The last couple of days have flown by.

We had an awesome time at Air Riderz and Mandarin yesterday.

I was so proud of my class as they graduated today. Congratulations to you all.  All the best for MYP. Have a wonderful summer.

Probability Review

 

We continued working on our Probability math unit today. Students completed review work in their practice books (MMS p. 239 – 240) and wrote a practice test. Practice tests will be returned tomorrow. Students who are ready will write the unit test tomorrow. The last day to write the test is Wednesday.

Grade 6s have been given their last project of the year. They are creating a slideshow representing their Grade 6 year using the letters of the alphabet.

Most groups will presented their Digital Footprint summative task to younger classes tomorrow. Students will need devices for their presentations and their ABCs of Grade 6 slideshow.

Grade 6s attended gym, music, and French class today.

Theoretical Probability

We continued working on our Probability math unit today. Students learned more about theoretical probability and how to apply this learning. Students were assigned practice work on p. 232– 237 of the MMS 7 workbook. Those who handed their work in yesterday have had all their work checked and should now correct all probability pages in both the MMS 6 & 7 book. The probability unit test will be written on Tuesday, June 12^th or Wednesday, June 13^th.

The remaining groups presented their Digital Footprint summative task this afternoon. Students then confirmed times to present their project with younger classes. Students will need devices on the day that they present to their chosen class on Monday, June 11^th or Tuesday, June 12^th.

Relative Frequency

 

The track & field medals were awarded at this morning’s assembly.

We continued working on our Probability math unit today. Students continued learning about tree diagrams and listing all possible outcomes. They also learned about the term ‘relative frequency’ and understand that is the same as experimental probability. Students were assigned practice work on p. 224– 231 of the MMS 7 workbook. Those who did not complete the practice work in class are asked to do this for homework. The probability unit test will be written on Tuesday, June 12^th or Wednesday, June 13^th.

Students worked on their final writing assessment for the year. This was an opportunity to improve in their weak areas, and apply all their learning to produce an improved interview.

Four groups presented their Digital Footprint summative task this afternoon. Students will need devices all week as they continue work on their summative task. Students who are at the track meet tomorrow but who did not get to present their project today will present first thing Friday morning. Students who are not going to the track meet will present their projects tomorrow. Students may then present to their chosen class from Friday, June 8 – Tuesday, June 12^th.

Connections between UOI & Novel Study

 

We continued working on our Probability math unit today. Students learned how to use tree diagrams to show all possible outcomes and to find the probability of a particular outcome. Students were assigned practice work on p. 160 – 163 of the MMS 6 workbook. Those who did not complete the practice work in class are asked to do this for homework. The probability unit test will be written on Tuesday, June 12^th or Wednesday, June 13^th. Patterning and Algebra unit tests are coming home today. Please take time to review these with your child, sign them, and return them to school tomorrow.

We finished up discussing how to write a report in the format of a television interview. Each student had conference time where we discussed their strengths and areas for improvement. Students will be writing their final report tomorrow.

During our inquiry time, we continued reading and discussing risky scenarios, how these relate to the Real World Safety Pledge and what can be done to minimize the risks.  Students then wrote a report on the risks that some characters in The Bridge to Terabithia faced, the consequences of not following the pledge, and how they could have reduced the risks.

Grade 6s then worked on their Digital Footprint summative task. Students will need devices all week as they continue work on their summative task. The last day for groups to present to me is Thursday, June 7^th. Students that are going to Thursday’s track meet will need to present their projects tomorrow. Students may then present to their chosen class from Friday, June 8 – Tuesday, June 12^th.
